Tell us who you are
My name is Carolina Gonzalo and I am the director of the Master’s Degree in University Education , in addition, I am also an associate professor at the Department of Education at the European University of Madrid.
Have you always wanted to be a teacher?
Yes, from a very young age. I always felt that it was what I wanted to do and what I wanted to dedicate myself to, and I continue to choose it day by day.
Your best experiences as a teacher
They are many and varied. I started as a Early Childhood Education teacher and I have really enjoyed that experience, it is an educational level that allows you to be a teacher without rushing and have students who are always willing to do activities with you. Then, at the level of Primary and Secondary Education, things change, but they are also very interesting. The students have a very beautiful energy that allows them to do great things if we facilitate and allow it. As a teacher of Formative Cycles, my best experience has been to discover the potential that the educational level has and to experience first-hand how it helps students to continue training and to pursue their dreams. I have worked in the elaboration of materials for subjects of the Degrees in Education, especially, Early Childhood Education. Also, I have developed material for a Postgraduate Course in Spanish as a Foreign Language.
What qualities should a good teacher have?
The teacher must, first of all, want to be. It is a 100% vocational profession. Then, starting from that base, the important thing is to listen to your students to connect with them, with their learning, with their way of experiencing them. We as teachers, many times, have a lot to tell, explain, show … but to be able to offer all this in a timely manner, it is necessary, first, to listen, and then to accompany them in their process of learning construction.
So, summarizing, as qualities, I would say that they are the ability to listen and the ability to guide or accompany students in a learning process that is different in each one despite having common elements that allow us to design activities and classes for children. or large groups.
What has led you to be the director of the Master in University Education?
My passion for education, especially university. On the other hand, the fact that I deeply believe in education and in its ability to improve those who go through it and work with it.
What are the strengths of the Master?
The strengths of the Master are the training program and the teaching staff. The program offers the student taking this master’s degree a complete training on education in general and the university level in particular. The teaching staff helps to work on all these aspects from the educational practice itself, in addition to promoting them through different activities and resources.
Would you tell us more about your methodology
The Postgraduate in Higher Education has a project-based methodology. In each of the modules, students have to carry out assignments -sometimes individually and sometimes in a small group- in which they must apply the contents studied. These are activities that allow students to use what they have learned to transform it into work or exercises that correspond to those of a university teacher.
On the other hand, it also works with the analysis of educational theories discussed and reflected in class.
The methodology of the Master combines the work of the competences that a university teacher must have: the preparation of the teaching-learning process of their students, as well as the bibliographic analysis and the development of research.
A tip for our students
