ODS month of April and Health and Wellbeing


The United Nations puts the spotlight on Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Health and Well-being) in April after the celebration of World Health Day earlier this month.

This SDG seeks to guarantee a healthy life and promote the well-being of all at all ages. The ODS 3 is designed to try to end the deaths that occur each year more than 6 million children under 5 years and also the inequality of women who have no access to health care they need. In addition to achieving universal health coverage.

In recent years, the WHO campaigns   have worked to promote that Health reaches all corners of the planet, making it possible for people to have health care when they need it in their community, not having to travel long distances to obtain it and that is affordable for families.

For this reason, the motto chosen by the  WHO  in 2021 is  “Build a fairer and healthier world” , focusing its attention on the need to ask leaders to guarantee living and working conditions conducive to good health for all women. persons.

“We ask leaders to ensure that all people have living and working conditions that are conducive to good health. At the same time, we urge leaders to monitor health inequalities and ensure that all people can access quality health services when and where they need them. “

This organization defines Health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not only the absence of diseases or illnesses.” Therefore, the main objectives within SDG 3 for 2030 that were established around different health areas:

  • Reduce the global maternal mortality rate to less than 70 per 100,000 live births.
  • End the preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age.
  • End the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, waterborne diseases and other communicable diseases.
  • Strengthen the prevention and treatment of addictive substance abuse , including drug abuse and the harmful use of alcohol.
